Son of Paul Belanger and Angelique Rene, Charles Belanger was one of the founders of St. Hyacinthe. His profession was reputed to be as a blacksmith. He married to Angelique Blanchard in 1839. In the mid 1850's his health failed him and it was recommended that he remove to the countryside. In 1867 he purchased a farm where the clean air of the woods and mountains were said to have revived him. It was said of Charles that he was a champion of the noble cause of colonization.
