Jewel Umberger passed away peacefully on January 12, 2017, at 97 years young.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Umberger; her elder son, Burney Kent; and great-grandson, Joe DiSilvestro.

Left to celebrate her life are her son, Cary Kent; grandchildren, Kelley and Thomas DiSilvestro, Kurtis Kent, Stephanie and Adam Thompson, John Kent, Paul Kent, Peter Kent, and Alice Lovett; great-grandchildren, Liz Denton, Heather Kent, James Kent, McKenna Thompson, Aubree Thompson, Sally Appert and Sophia Appert; and great-great-grandchildren, Joey DiSilvestro, Caitlin DiSilvestro and Lilly Denton.

Jewel was a schoolteacher, author, minister, and a humanitarian with special compassion for the poor and marginalized. At an age when most people are winding down and getting ready for retirement, Jewel was beginning a new career. Along with her husband, Arthur, Jewel ran a prison ministry and planted a church, The Lord's Refuge.
Burial will be at Tyler Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Kent, Paul Kent, Adam Thompson, Stephanie Thompson, Thomas DiSilvestro and Heather Kent. Honorary pallbearers will be Kurtis Kent, James Kent, Bradley Sone, Ray Alden and Randy.
