The following obituary appeared in the "Indiana Evening Gazette" (Indiana, PA) on Friday, February 16, 1973, page 21, column 2:

MERLE W. ADAMS, 25, Punxsutawney RD 4, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 1973, in Punxsutawney, as the result of injuries suffered in a truck accident.

Born June 25, 1947, in Punxsutawney, he was the son of Mervin and Gertrude Bush Adams. He was a lifelong resident of Punxsutawney RD 4 area (Dora), was a Vietnam veteran and was employed as a truck driver for the Quaker Market Company in Punxsutawney.

Surviving are his widow, Margaret Jean Hyatt; two daughters: Rebeccah Jean and Tammy Lynn, both at home; his parents; two brothers: J. Edward, Punxsutawney, and M. Thomas, Tampa, Fla.; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Bertha Bush, Greenville, Pa., and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Florence Shick, Punxsutawney RD 4.

Friends are being received at the Pifer Funeral Home in Punxsutawney where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in the Zion Cemetery in Porter Twp., Jefferson County.
