Leon L. Ruwe, 79, of Springfield, passed away at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Leon was born on Mar. 14, 1937 in Strasburg, Ill., the son of Emil W. and Lydia Schmitt Ruwe.

He married Marie Heiden on Jun. 5, 1960 in Strasburg. Leon was a 1955 graduate of Stewardson-Strasburg High School and then attended Eastern Illinois University. He was employed as a manager for the State of Illinois for over 30 years. Leon then went to work for Goldman Promotions (now called HALO) for over 20 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Business Club. Leon was a happy, cheerful and loving man.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Paul, H.K. "Whitey," Stuart, and Richard; and three sisters, Sandra Wahl, Lila Zike, and Mary Louise Ruwe.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Ruwe of Springfield; his son, Gregory (wife, Karen) Ruwe of Springfield; daughter, Kristina (husband, Michael) Crawford of Sycamore, Ill.; four grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Ruwe, and Alex and Zackary Crawford; one sister, Melba Stewart of Mattoon, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Family will receive friends from 9:00 – 9:45 a.m. with a ceremony beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 220 South 2nd St., Springfield, with Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Radtke officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
