LONG, Eleanor J., was born June 19, 1916 in Westgate, Iowa at Adrian and Maude (Whittenbaugh) Rademaker. She was the oldest of six children. She lost her father at a very early age and helped raise her brothers and sisters. So, she naturally went into nursing before she met her husband of 22 years. She married Harris E. “Zip” Long on Dec. 12, 1945 and became his partner in the banking business throughout Iowa. They moved to Clearwater, FL. in 1957 and started the Gulf-to-Bay Bank & Trust Co. in 1962. She was a very caring and loving person who was always willing to help others. Her generosity and kindness were an inspiration to her family and friends. Her love for dogs and horses were passed down three generations. She and her daughter showed horses in Iowa and her granddaughter is actively showing here in Florida. Eleanor is survived by her children: son, Charles W. Long of Clearwater, FL., daughter Judy L. Schafers (Tim Hazen) of Tarpon Springs, FL. and her granddaughter, Kallie J. Schafers of Tampa, FL. and her brother, Dale D. (Ann) Rademaker of Waukon, Ia. And her sisters, Marjorie (Paul) Artis of Des Moines, IA; and Jean Wetlaufer of Prescott, Az. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Adrian Rademaker and sister, Betty Lou Turney. Services will be Monday December 15, 2008 at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home 2853 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater. Visitation from 10 – 12 and services following
