Mr. Eugene Junior Boyd, age 85, of Swords Creek, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (January 11, 2017) at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Born October 31, 1931 in Pine Creek, Virginia, he was a son of the late Charlie Berkley Boyd and Mary Magalene Sparks. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a loving father, grandfather, and husband. He had formerly been employed as a coal miner for twenty-five years and had retired from E. Dillon and Company after twenty-five years of service. In his free time, he greatly enjoyed painting and restoring old vehicles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Byrd Boyd, one daughter, Betty Ruth Boyd, one son, Michael Eugene Boyd, and two sisters, Doris McGhee and Sally Gibson.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Vance Boyd of the home; three sons, Gary Boyd and wife, Teresa , Jimmy Boyd and wife, Carrie, and Chris Boyd all of Swords Creek; one daughter, Wanda Vance and husband, Carlos of Swords Creek; two granddaughters, Angela Crawford and husband, Wallace of Richlands and Madison Boyd of North Carolina; two grandsons, Adam Boyd and wife, Trenna of Swords Creek, and Matt Boyd and fiancée, Stacy Bonds of West Virginia; one great-grandson, Drake Boyd; two brothers, Robert Whited and Darrell Albert Whited; two sisters, Billie Jean Wilson and Joyce Compton; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Rev. Jim Richardson and Pine Creek Holiness Church, Helping Hands Hospice nursing staff, and special caretakers, Jennifer Compton and Angela Crawford.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday at the Pine Creek Holiness Church with Rev. Jim Richardson officiating. Interment will follow in the Richardson Cemetery on Horton Ridge, Swords Creek, Virginia.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Robinette and Doug Richardson.
