Mr. Wallace E. "Wally" Wood, age 91, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the Hume Home. He was born on November 3, 1925 in Muskegon to Earl and Gladys (Cook) Wood. Wally resided his entire life in the Muskegon area, except for spending time serving his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. After retirement, Wally continued serving on the Muskegon Veteran of Foreign Wars County Council, and helped perform honor guard ceremonies for countless Veterans in the West Michigan area. Wally was also involved with the American Red Cross for many years, and received the Volunteer of the Year Award for those efforts. He worked at Paragon Pattern for almost 30 years, before retiring in 1987. Wally was also a member of Fruitport Congregational UCC. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, gardening, cooking, grilling and smoking fish. On May 31, 1947, Wally married the former Joanne Kohlbeck, and have enjoyed 69 years of marriage together.

SURVIVORS include his wife, Joanne; two children, Roger (Linda) Wood and Janet Wood; two grandchildren, Krystal Foster and Sarah (Andrew) Conklin; and five great grandchildren, Caleb, Skyler, Mckenzie, Colt, and Carter. Wally was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Wood.

MEMORIAL SERVICES will be 1 PM Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at The Lee Chapel 6291 S. Harvey St. with Rev. Ken Babcock officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service, from 12-1 PM. Burial will take place in Fruitport Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Wally's name to the American Red Cross or the Muskegon VFW County Council Honor Guard will be appreciated.
