Duretta E. Kirkman, 58, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, in her residence, after a battle with cancer. She had been a certified nurse’s assistant for Wyndmor Retirement Community.
She was born May 18, 1953, in Terre Haute, to Clifford Sheese and Mary Sherwood Sheese.
Survivors include three children, Dusty Kernstein and husband Brian, Terry Gowan and husband Tom, and Bob Kirkman and his companion Heather; three sisters, Joan Johnson, Essie Keith, and Grace Allen; eight grandchildren, Chelsie (Jerry) Hancock, Brian “Bub” Kernstein, Braiden Gowan, Bobby Kirkman, Bradley Kirkman, Brittany Kirkman, Tyler Light, and Ashton Light; two great-grandchildren, Myla Hancock and Blayke Michael Wilson; and many nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clifford Sheese; her mother, Mary Brown; and two brothers, Billy Sheese and Chet Bridgewater.
She was a member of the Dresser Church. She was a wonderful mother and was so loved by her children that she raised on her own.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Thursday, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, with the Rev. Buddy White officiating. Cremation has been scheduled. Visitation will be 3 p.m. until service time Thursday.
