He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on October 13, 1933. He joined the Navy after high school and served on the USS Oriskany for 3 ½ years during the Korean War. After service, he attended Western Michigan University, worked for several valve companies, invested in a rubber company and eventually became a partner in M&J Valve Co. until retirement in 2008.
Dick was married to Joyce for 64 years, have 3 surviving children, Jean Howard and husband, Jacob, Lois Aucoin, and Dale Janes; 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother.
Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Friday, January 6, 2017, from 8:30 AM until 10 AM. Masonic rites will be at 9:30 AM and service at 10 AM. Graveside service with military honors will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
