He was of the Baptist Faith. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Twin Cities #95.

He was retired from the United States Army after 21 years of service, served in Vietnam.

He worked at West Stevens in Opelika, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Austin Hobbs, Sr. and Betty Mae Howard Hobbs; brothers, James Austin Hobbs, Jr. and Troy Hobbs.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty L. Hobbs; children, Wayne Hobbs, Jr. (Dee), Timothy James Hobbs, Sandra Gale Strickland (Lee); grandchildren, Ashley Rogers, Chris Hobbs, Katelyn Strickland, and Lauren Strickland; great grandchildren, Jasper and Jaxson Rogers; sister Lula Parker (Lloyd), and brother Jack Hobbs.

Visitation will be held in the Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home on Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

Funeral service will be held Friday, January 6, 2017 in the Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Thad Endicott officiating.

Interment will follow at Garden Hills Cemetery.
