Obituary from The Messenger of Truth Issue 8, 1946:

My dear wife and our mother Susie (Unruh) Johnson was born on July 16, 1874 in Poland, Russia. She immigrated to America with her parents at the young age of 16 weeks. They landed in Pennsylvania, later in Kansas and South Dakota, and then at the age of 16 years they moved back to Kansas where she spent the remaining years.
In the year of 1894 she was converted and upon the remission of sins and her faith, she was received in the Church of God in Christ (Mennonite) through baptism, to which she remained a faithful and active member to her end.
In the year 1895 on January 28 we were united in marriage. Our union was blessed with 2 sons and 5 daughters. Through 51 years and one month we mutually shared joys and sorrows.
Mother was of a fine Christian spirit, finding many fields of service for the Master, whom she loved and served in a consistent, humble, Christlike way. She was often deeply concerned about her soul's salvation, also that of her children and grandchildren. Her admonitions to be faithful to us as a family and her deep concernment for the Church will always be remembered. But we wish to humbly bow to the Divine wisdom, believing it is better to be absent from the body and present with the Lord. Mother and her loving care will never be forgotten.
She enjoyed good health until on Thanksgiving Day in 1938 when she suffered a light stroke of paralysis. A year later she unfortunately fell and broke her limb. From these ailments she recovered well. On March 9, 1945 she suffered another stroke which left her bedfast and completely helpless. She was cared for at home for 5 months and later was taken to the Mercy Hospital at Moundridge, Kans. The last few weeks she declined quite rapidly and passed away on March 3, 1946 at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 17 days. We as a family were all at her bedside when she passed away.
She bore her affliction patiently being in this helpless condition for 6 days less than one year. We mourn not as such that have no hope, but we have the assurance that mother had a living hope of everlasting life and has gone to her reward in Heaven. May we all live so as to meet her there.
She was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She is survived by me her sorrowing companion, 2 sons and 5 daughters, 2-daughters-in-law, 4 sons-in-law, 43 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. 1 sister Mrs. Andrew Wedel, Ringwood, Okla. 2 brothers, John Unruh, Enid, Okla., and Henry Unruh, Custer, Washington, with many other relatives and friends.

Farewell, dear mother, your labors are o'er,
Your willing hands will toil no more,
Peaceful be thy slumber, thy rest be sweet,
Our circle is broken, our home incomplete.

Mother, you are not forgotten,
Though on earth you are no more,
Still in memory you are with us,
As you always were before.

All is over, hands are folded,
On a quiet and peaceful breast,
All is over, pains are ended,
Now dear Mother is at rest.
--Father and Children
