Gerald D. Brewer, 92, of Malvern, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at Encore Health and Rehab. He was born in Winnsboro, Texas on Oct. 29, 1924, to the late Edgar Bascum Brewer and Vela Ferguson Brewer. Reared and educated in Winnsboro, he worked for Texas Eastern Transmission in the products/pipeline division, retiring in 1985 after 38 years with the company. Prior to moving to Malvern in 1986, he had lived in El Dorado for 26 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Malvern, and attended the Saltzman Sunday School Class. Mr. Brewer had been a deacon in Baptist churches for over 60 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Knight Brewer of Malvern, to whom he was married on Aug. 16, 1947, in Winnsboro; a son, Dr. David Brewer and his wife, Susan of Hot Springs; a daughter, Susan Morse and her husband Jeter of Springdale; a sister, Peggy Smith of Winnsboro; six grandchildren, Brian, Stephen and Kevin Brewer, Leigh Anne Davis, Kathryn Miller and Karyn Jentzsch; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Brewer was also preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

A visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today at J. A. Funk Funeral Home of Malvern.

His funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Scott Davis officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, in the Lee Cemetery in Winnsboro.
