Lonnie Ray York, age 68, of Gholson, passed away early Sunday morning, January 1, 2017 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Pastor Jeff Richter officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Gholson Cemetery, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West.

Lonnie was born January 18, 1948 in Waco, the son of Albert C. and Nettie Mae (Weaver) York. He graduated from West High School in 1966. He was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls and served his country with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. On October 25, 1993, he was united in marriage to Paula Simpson in Gholson. Lonnie worked as a dairy man for HEB in Waco. He umpired for many years for the West Youth Baseball/Softball League and also umpired the High School Boys Baseball with Texas Association of Sports Officials in many areas of the state. He was a member of Gholson Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, raising his show rabbits and spending time with his family.

Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lloyd York and brother-in-law, John Bays.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Paula York of Gholson; children, Melissa Lott of Kerrville, Donna Walter and husband Dennis of Waco and Sherry Franklin of Gholson; sons, Stephen York and wife Stacey of Fredericksburg and Matthew York and wife Sheona of Kerrville; sisters, Betty Ann Adkins and husband Lee, Mildred Richardson and husband Otis and Bertha Bays; sister-in-law, Betty York; grandchildren, Sarah, Leslie, Stephanie, Justin, Amanda, Katie, Emily, Kayla, Garrett, Parker, Ashlynn, Brayleigh, Mattison and Lorne; great-grandsons, Jesse and Aiden; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are his nephews.
