Firstborn child of Thomas Mantle and Nancy Serilda Goforth Shelton. Thomas had six younger siblings: John Llewellen, Joseph Hyrum, Miner, Stephen, William, Margaret Abigail.
Thomas was a rancher. He did not marry. He died at age 76.

VERNAL - Funeral services were conducted in the Glines L.D.S. ward chapel Wednesday for Thomas Mantle, 78, pioneer ranchers and cattleman of the Ashley valley, who died here Sunday of causes incident to age. Bishop John B. Eaton officiated. Interment was in the Vernal Memorial park, under the direction of the Swain funeral home.
Mr. Mantle was born December 25, 1858 at Salt Lake City, a son of Thomas and Nancy M. Goforth Mantle. The family moved to Midway and in 1881 Mr. Mantle came to Ashley valley where he had resided since.
Surviving are three brothers, Stephen, William, and Hyrum Mantle, of Jensen, Utah.
