PIONEER OF UINTAH COUNTY GONE TO REST

Thomas Mantle, the aged father of the Mantle brothers of Glines Ward died suddenly last Sunday night. The aged gentleman had been totally blind for years and had been close at home.

Funeral services were held at the Glines Chapel Tuesday. The speakers were Elders James Hacking, J. O'Nell, Sr, and Pres. Ernest Eaton. The interment was made in the Vernal Cemetery.

Thomas Mantle was a pioneer of Uintah County; was identified with the building of the roads and the bridges for the development that has later come. He was a member of the first bishopric of the Glines Ward and was highly respected by everybody.

Thomas Mantle was born in Herefordshire, England, May 1, 1836. He came to this country with his parents, and settled in Illinois. He joined the church in Illionis and came to Utah in one of the early companies. In 1871, he married Nancy Goforth. In 1871 he came to Ashley Valley, and settled in Glines Ward.
