Ruth retired from Frank Ix & Sons after 53 years. Fondly known as "Nanny", she loved spending time with family. She loved the holidays and cooking special meals. She will always be remembered for her ham and macaroni salad. She loved walking and could always be counted on for a good conversation.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Hudson Tate; and son-in-law, Steven Wayne Craig.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Jean Craig; grandson, Michael Wayne Craig (Valerie); granddaughter, Stephanie Craig Bourne (Mark); great-granddaughters, Jordan, Hayley and Chesney Bourne; great-grandsons, Jason and Matt Thacker; and great-great-grandsons, Christopher and Ian Thacker. She was also preceded in death by her nephew, Ronald Haney and is also survived by her brother, George Haney (Margaret); nephew, Gary Haney (Mary Lynn); and nieces, Janice Poindexter (Willard), Brenda Powell (Mike), and Cindy Patterson (Donnie).
Carol, Mike, and Stephanie would like to express their undying gratitude to her niece, Brenda Powell and her husband, Mike for their dedication to Nanny. We can never express enough how loved and appreciated you are. The family would also like to thank her dear friend, Peggy Sprouse and especially JR Sprouse for their many acts of kindness and the love and care they showed Nanny.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Hill & Wood Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2017,at the Hill & Wood Chapel in Charlottesville, Va, conducted by the Rev. Richard Hutchison.
