She graduated from Trigg County High School in May 1944. In August 1945 she was employed by Outwood V.A. Hospital in Dawson Springs as one of the first of three information clerks including her sister, Mary Grace, being one of the remaining two. She worked there until February 1948. She married Dr. Charles D. (Dave) Miller, who was a dentist at Outwood, in December 1946. Martha Jean started as a medical assistant for Dr. James Freeman and Dr. Herbert Chaney in Dawson Springs in August 1960. She became a supervisor when a new building was built and they joined Trover Clinic in 1983. She retired in 1988.
Dr. Miller died in January 1973. Martha Jean married James L. (Jack) Brown of Arkansas, who was an electrical engineer for Outwood State Hospital in December 1977.
Martha was a member of the Dawson Springs First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 30 years and sang in the choir for over 25 years. She enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, bridge, being a den mother to the Cub Scouts in the 1950s. She was a charter member of the Pennyrile Garden Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Edward Cameron in 1980, her sister, Mary Grace Teague in July 2007, her second husband, James L. (Jack) Brown in July 2014 and a step-son, Robert Taylor Brown.
Survivors include a son ~ Michael David Miller (Eileen) of Glasboro, NJ, a daughter ~ Diane Miller Perkins of Lewisport, KY, six grandchildren ~ Scott Miller, Dana Miller, Lara Miller White, Kimberly Miller Prescott, Amelia Perkins Warren, Andrew Perkins, and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by two step-daughters ~ Marion Tucker and Renee Brown, two step-grandchildren, and two step-great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Beshear Funeral Home, Dawson Springs, KY on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at 12:30 PM with Elder Jeff Winfrey officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home beginning at 11:30 AM and continuing until the funeral time. Burial will follow at East End Cemetery in Cadiz, KY at the conclusion of the funeral service.
