James Lamar "Jack" Brown died peacefully at home in Dawson Springs, Kentucky, on Saturday, July 26, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jack was born in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, on August 26, 1926, to Robert Shilric Brown and Flora Ann Smith Brown. He is preceded in death by both of his parents and eight siblings, as well as his son, Robert Taylor Brown. He is survived by his wife, Martha C. Brown, two step-children, Diane M. Perkins and Michael David Miller, as well as six step-grandchildren, Amelia Perkins Warren, Andrew Perkins, Scott Miller, Dana Miller, Lara Miller White, and Kimberly Miller. From his former union to Naomi Jean Taylor, he has two surviving daughters, Marion Jean Tucker and Carol Renee Brown, as well as two grandchildren, Jason Scott Tucker and Jennifer Tucker Penny. Jack has seven great and step-great grandchildren.
Jack lived and worked in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, for many years. He worked for Reynolds Metal Company, and later he built his independent business, Brown Electric. Jack was a Navy veteran of World War II. In 1975, he moved to Dawson Springs and worked for the Outwood facility and then in the mining industry just prior to his retirement. Upon his move to Dawson Springs, he met Martha, and they were married on December 17, 1977.
He was known for his love of golf, riding motorcycles, fishing, his ability "to fix anything" and a spontaneous sense of humor. His friendships ran deep, and he would do anything to lend a helping hand. During his illness his friends likewise kept close watch and provided loving care. He was part of a fine community. Jack and Martha are members of the Dawson Springs Baptist Church.
