Helen was born on June 13, 1907 at Tekamah, Nebraska to Andrew Jay and Eva (Metzler) McClanahan.
She was united in marriage to Adelbert Richard McNear on Feb. 17th, 1926 at Council Bluffs, Iowa. Though they both were born in Nebraska, on their marriage license both said they were Irish, as that was their heritage.
In 1930, the McNears were farming in Summit Township, Burt County, Nebraska. The 1930 US Census lists a large family:

The couple farmed west of Tekamah for several years. They were blessed with two daughters.
In 1935-1940, Helen and A.R. were living in Summit Township, Burt County. Both Helen and A.R. had completed 2nd year High School. The 1940 US Census lists:

Barbara McNear, 12, daughter, 8th grade
Kathryn McNear, 8, daughter, 2nd grade.
Sadly, Mr. McNear passed away on Jan. 30th, 1968.
Helen was later married to Dr. Leslie Earl Sauer on June 19th, 1971 at Tekamah. Dr. Sauer passed away on Sept. 25, 1985.
Helen was a member of Tekamah Chapter No. 131, O.E.S.(Order of Eastern Star) and Magnolia Rebekah Lodge No. 94, both of Tekamah, and was also a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church at Tekamah.
Helen McNear Sauer, age 81, of Tekamah, passed away early on Monday morning, Aug. 29th, 1988 at the Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, NE after a brief illness.
Left with memories are two daughters: Barbara M. Hawkins and Kathryn Eriksen, both of Craig, NE; one step-son, Clarke Sauer of Kansas City, Missouri; one step-daughter, Marjorie Spradling of Walnut Creek, California; six grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, Neil McClanahan of Fort Calhoun; Jay McClanahan of Omaha; and Keith McClanahan of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one brother, one sister, one grandchild and one step-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31st, 1988 at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah with Rev. Thomas E. Robson officiating. Interment was at the Tekamah Cemetery.
