Annie Mueller was born in Forchheim, Freiburg, Baden, Germany (see image) to Agatha Mueller; her father's name is not recorded. Her marriage declaration names her birth as April 1833, which is correct but she is described as 82 years and four months old when she died, which would place her birth (incorrectly) in June 1832. Her death record indicates her burial in this cemetery, where her husband also lies.

On 16 August 1853, Annie married Jean (John) Schaaf at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Archdiocese record brutalizes the names of their places of origin but luckily records them, or we would have no knowledge of Annie's native place: ""John Schaaf Originally from Memelshoffen, Elsas, Gallia Married Anastasia Mueller, originally from Torchheim, Baden. Witnesses: George Schaaf and Rosa Grim. Married by Rev. F. Tschenhens, C.S.S.R." George Schaaf was the new husband's brother; Rosa Grim must have been a friend of Annie's.

Annie and Jean raised four children. Anastasia (Annie, 1855-1932) married Herman Barthmaier. George W. (1856-1926) married Sophia Dorsan. Mary M. (1862-1928) married William Lindig. Joseph Ferdinand (1873-1930) married Martha (Mattie) Blackman.

In 1870 and 1880, the family lived at 2442 N 2d St. in Philadelphia's Ward 19, Dist. 59. Jean was practicing his skilled trade of cordwainer, maker of fine leather shoes. By 1910, she and Jean had moved to 1211 Lindley Avenue in the 42nd Ward, which is where she died.
