Carolyn Joyce (Claytor) Gray Burks, 75, passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at her home in Slidell. Born in Tuttle, Oklahoma, on June 20, 1945, Carolyn was the daughter of Eldon Eugene Claytor and Alice Irene (Kelley) Claytor.
On March 2, 1962, she married John Gray. They made their home in Sanger, where they raised their two daughters, Carla and Cynthia. John preceded her in death on February 27, 1996.
Carolyn worked in Publications for the Denton I.S.D. until she retired in 2012. It was there that she met James Willard Burks, and they were married on December 28, 2001.
One of twelve children, Carolyn came from a large, close, and loving family. She was the best mother and grandmother. She loved her family, and spending time with all of them was very important to her. Carolyn was an avid reader.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Pruett, and husband, Steve of Slidell; four grandchildren, Jonathan Webb of Spokane, WA; Jeffrey Webb of Bothwell, WA; Caitlin Pruett of Irving, and Slayton Pruett of Slidell. She is also survived by four sisters, Peggy Gray of Gordonville, Linda Newton of Montague, Sherry Hanna of Petrolia, and Teresa Johnson of Slidell; two brothers, Jerry Claytor of Sanger and Larry Claytor of Pioneer Valley; and Aunt Mildred Baker of Azle. Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, James; her parents; a daughter, Carla Gray Webb; three sisters Evelyn Freeman, Mona Massengale, and Nancy Claytor; and two brothers, Wallace Claytor and Bobby Claytor.
Carolyn's visitation will be on Friday, March 26, 2021, from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm at the North Texas Trinity Cowboy Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm. Ken Peterson will be the officiating minister.
Services are under the direction of Coker Funeral Home in Sanger.
