He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in civil engineering.
He married Maev C. Berry on August 30, 1941 and they were married for 74 years. Mrs. Brown preceded him in death on December 17, 2015.
Bus co-founded and owned the Southern Illinois Sand company as well as the Southern Illinois Transfer Company.
He served in the Seabees during WWII and the Korean War. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Chester and belonged to the Elks and Chester Rotary Clubs. He was a Mason and Shriner. Bus was a life member of the VFW Kaskaskia Post and a 75 year member of the American Legion Alva Courier Post. He served as a director and president of Buena Vista National Bank.
Mr. Brown is survived by two sons, Bruce (Mary) Brown of Chester; Terry (Carolyn) Brown of Belleville; and one daughter, Jeanne (Ken) Wagner of Chester; six grandchildren: Jennifer (Brad) Warhausen, Steeleville; Rebecca (Larry) Hanna, Rockwood; Matthew (Lyndsey) Brown, Bellville; Nathan (Ashley) Brown, Belleville; Stacey Eldridge, Belleville; and Stefanie Petrucci-Hills, Orlando, FL; nine great-grandchildren: Hunter Warhausen, Connor Warhausen, and Colton Warhausen, all of Steeleville; Isabelle Marshall, Jaxon Hanna and Aaron Hanna, all of Rockwood; Audrey Brown of Belleville; Branden Frazier and Kortney Frazier, both of Belleville.
Visitation for “Bus” F. Brown will be held Friday, December 30th, at the First Presbyterian Church in Chester beginning at 10:00 am followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm. The family prefers memorials go to the First Presbyterian Church in Chester.
