Eva Pruneda Gonzalez, 83, of Wapato, WA, passed away Friday, December 23, 2016 at Yakima Regional Hospital. She was born on November 7, 1933 in Congregación, Hidalgo, Nuevo Leon, México to Damaso Pruneda and Maria Liberata (Alvarado) Pruneda.
Eva came to the United States with her mom and three sisters in 1952, settling in Cutler, CA. She and Fidel Olivares Gonzalez were married on January 19, 1957 in Mexico then later returned to California, making their home in Dinuba, CA. In 1974 they moved to Wapato, WA, where they farmed for the next few years. Her dream was to open up a small restaurant, which she accomplished in 1990. Taqueria Nuevo Leon was in business until 1993.
She was an active Catholic, serving in parishes at all levels. She was a part of the Guadalupana Group at St. Peter Claver. She prayed the rosary every Sunday before Mass which she continued faithfully for many years.
At the time of her passing; Eva was survived by her husband, Fidel Olivarez Gonzalez, daughters, Irasema (Justo) Cantu, Idolina Gonzalez, Irma (Joe) Rodriguez, Joel (Adriana) Gonzalez, Julio (Lisa) Gonzalez, and Magdalena Maes, all of Wapato, brothers, Demetro Pruneda and Reginaldo Pruneda of Dinuba, CA, sisters, Lydia Pruneda Martinez of Riverbank, CA, and Yolanda De Leon Pruneda of Monterrey, Mexico, 31 grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. Mom is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers.
Visitation was held with an overnight Vigil on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 beginning at 5:00 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 12:00 p.m., both at St. Peter Claver in Wapato with Burial followed at the Reservation Community Memorial Park in Wapato, WA.
