Janet Marie Short, 64, of Ft. Scott, KS, formerly of Pittsburg, KS, passed away at 11:20 a.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at the Ft. Scott Manor.
She was born October 16, 1952, at Ft. Scott, KS, the daughter of Ian Austin and Mary Fern (Armstrong) Howell.
On February 14, 1973, she was united in marriage to Jack Lynn Short at Pittsburg. They later divorced.
Mrs. Short worked at Pitt Plastics for 19 years. She had also worked as a nurse's aide and was a housekeeper.
Membership was held in the First United Methodist Church, Pittsburg. When she was younger she participated in band and was active in 4-H. She loved to spend time with family and friends and take care of them.
Mrs. Short is survived by three daughters, Heather (Short) Threlfall and her husband, Gerald of Frontenac, Stephanie Marie Short of Pittsburg, and Erika Cousins and her husband, Terry of Chickasha, OK, one sister, Diana Greenwood of Taylor, TX, four grandchildren, Austin Lawrence, Madison Short, Kiera Threlfall and Dominik Short, and one aunt, Helen Lashbrooke and her husband, Jerry of Belton, MO.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her grandmother who raised her, Goldie Pickle, one son, Samuel Dustin Short, and one uncle, James Armstrong.
A service for Mrs. Short is set for 10 a.m., Saturday, December 31, 2016, at the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, with Pastor Annie Ricker conducting the service. Burial will follow in the Frontenac City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to the SEK Humane Society. These may be left at or sent to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
