Jannie Baker Loftis-Smith was born on February 2, 1934. She grew up in Linsday, Oklahoma to John Elza and Georgia Irene Baker, and passed from this earthly life on December 26, 2016 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 82.

Jannie said in her earlier years she was "a happy little farm girl." She attended Payne Grade School, Lindsay High School and Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater (before it was Oklahoma State University)

Jannie married Dewey Edward Loftis, Jr. after they met in Stillwater, OK at Oklahoma A&M. They had two children, Yalonda and Mark. Jannie was an avid OSU fan and loved wearing OSU colors.
Jannie was an extremely organized and proficient administrator. She retired from Sun Oil Company, Tulsa Refinery. She worked there for 15 years. Her final position was Manager of Internal Communications and Office Services. She moved to Oklahoma City from Tulsa in April, 1989. Her favorite workplace in Edmond was Pelco Products where she worked in customer service.

Jannie married Donald J. Smith on May 15, 1998, and they lived in Edmond, OK for 18 years. Jannie was an avid OSU fan and loved wearing OSU colors. Jannie loved giving Donald, an avid OU fan, a very hard time about his Sooner background. The rivalry was intense as she wore OSU orange and black, while Don always wore OU crimson and cream. They enjoyed square dancing, round dancing, gardening and being together.

Jannie and Don met at a square dance. Don was a new member and Jannie was his angel. (In the square dancing world an "angel" helps new members learn to dance.) Jannie always said it was love at her first sight and she knew she would be more than a square dancing angel to Don. They were married on May 15, 1998 at Nichols Hills Park. Don and Jannie are members of Chapel Hill Methodist Church.

Jannie was very active in UMW at Chapel Hill, where she was awarded UMW member of the year. She volunteered on many levels. For years she wrote encouraging notes to her church family, always a kind word to say when someone was sick, grieving or happy. Jannie was an amazing encourager. Jannie was also a member of the Oklahoma Hospitality Club and a long-time volunteer for the Oklahoma Foundation of the Disabled.

Survivors are husband, attorney Donald J. Smith of Edmond, OK, brother, Johnnie Baker and "sister"-in-law, Jean Baker of Goldsby, OK, daughter, Yalonda Loftis Silberman of Oklahoma City, son, Mark Edward Loftis of Norman, OK. Jannie was preceded in death by her parents, John Elza and Georgia Irene Baker, her brother, Douglas Baker, sister, Vera Rayburn Taylor, and brother, Murry Baker and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a come-and-go visitation and reception from 4PM – 7PM on Wednesday, December 28. Services will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, December 29 at Crawford Funeral Home, 610 NW 178th, Edmond OK. Graveside service will follow at Greenhill Cemetery, Lindsay, OK at 2:30 PM.
