Joy May Cavett Nix, 84, of Canton, OK departed this life on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Oklahoma City, OK. She was born on December 9, 1932 at Canton, OK to Edwin Nicholas and Bula Mae (Sanderson) Burghardt.

Joy grew up in the Canton area and graduated from Canton High School. She married Harry Ray Cavett on May 20, 1950 at Canton, OK. Joy worked for several schools and restaurants, Hollytex, the flower shop in Canton, was a speech therapist in Keyes, OK and retired as a data technician with 3M in 1995. She was a member of the PEO, the American Legion Auxiliary for women and had recently moved her membership back to the Canton Christian Church. Joy married Bill Nix on December 8, 1984 at Canton, OK.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harry Ray Cavett; three brothers, LeRoy, Ray and Gene Burghardt; one nephew, Keith Caywood.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Nix of Weatherford, OK; three children, daughter Diana Campbell and husband Tim of Yale, OK, daughter Deborah Copeland and husband Glen of Keyes, OK and son Dean Ray Cavett and wife Sandra of Canton, OK; step-children Greg Nix, Mike Nix and Shelly Denton; one sister, Cleta Fay Caywood and husband Jim of Easley, SC; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Canton Christian Church with Chaplain Danny Cavett and Steve Driskill officiating. Interment will follow in Eagle City Cemetery.
