VelDean (Olsen) Summers, 76, of Idaho Falls passed away peacefully at home on December 20, 2016. Her loving husband, Jerry, was by her side as he has been since the day they met.
VelDean was born July 1, 1940 in Garfield Utah to Dean Nyman Olsen and Velma Watterson Olsen. The family moved from Utah to Ammon, Idaho where VelDean attended school. She graduated from Bonneville High School in 1958 and has lived in Idaho Falls for the remainder of her life.
On July 18, 1958, VelDean married Jerry "Butch" Summers in the Idaho Falls Temple. Jerry and VelDean raised three boys: Jeff, Rod, and Mike. For much of her life she worked for Decker's Inc. in their office.
VelDean was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing. She and Jerry were also long-time square dancers. Her hobbies included knitting, sewing and gardening. But mostly her passion was her family and she loved being with them and caring for them.
She is survived by:
Husband, Jerry Garth Summers of Idaho Falls, ID;
Brother, Robert "Bob" (Deb) Olsen of Ammon, ID;
Son, Jeff (Trina) Summers of Chandler, AZ;
Son, Rod (Darlene) Summers of Phoenix, AZ;
Son, Mike Summers of Mesa, AZ;
7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
She is proceeded in death by her parents Dean & Velma Olsen, her brother Heber W. Olsen, her sister Janet Cox, and her granddaughter Lindsay Marie Summers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Wood Funeral Home East Side (963 S. Ammon Road). The family will visit with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
