ALICE, Texas - Bonnie Grace Adams Harmon, 88, died Sunday, March 29, 2009 in Alice, Texas, as fresh green was popping out on mesquite trees and bright bougainvillea cascaded in full color. Services will be Friday, April 3, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Alice First United Methodist Church with Reverend Larry McRorey officiating. Burial will be in Alice Cemetery under the direction of Holmgreen Mortuary of Alice.

Bonnie was born May 31, 1920 in Wheeler, Texas, to W. W. and Letitia McRorey Adams. Bonnie's brothers were Charlie, Wilbur, Marshall, Clyde, Walter and Carroll. Her only sister, Winona, was also her teacher. Bonnie graduated from Wheeler High School in 1937. She attended the University of Texas at Austin. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics degree in August 1941. Bonnie began her teaching career in Wheeler in September 1941.

On April 25, 1942, Bonnie married Charles Calvin Harmon, a Wheeler classmate and the love of her life. During World War II, Bonnie and Charles had two children. After his return from Europe in December 1945, Charles started his education on the G.I. Bill. He and Bonnie taught in Wheeler, Hart, Kelton, Vega and Hawkins, Texas. Bonnie loved to cook and sew. She made many little dresses and shirts from flour sacks. She also made cheerleader uniforms and elegant formal gowns and costumes for her daughters. Bonnie dearly loved her family as they did her. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

In 1975, the Harmons moved to Alice. Bonnie taught Science at William Adams Junior High School until she and Charles retired in 1985. They enjoyed life in Alice, Charles playing golf with his friend, James; Bonnie bowling and attending club meetings including Texas State Teachers Association, The Texas Exes, Texas Retired Teachers Association and Book Lovers Club. They were both avid Texas Longhorn fans.

Bonnie was a life-long Methodist.

She belonged to Women's Society of Christian Service, later known as United Methodist Women, and the Emmaus group. One of her favorite projects was researching the stained glass windows in the Alice Methodist Church, taking pictures of them and creating scrapbooks of the pictures and research.
