Sara J. Ward, 81, of Waverly, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly.

Sara Jean Ward was born on November 4, 1935, the daughter of Reuben L. and Rose B. (Schroeder) Judisch in Waverly, Iowa.

Sara was baptized with her twin sister shortly after birth at the Waverly Hospital and confirmed on April 2, 1950 at St. John Lutheran Church in Waverly.

She attended the Waverly School System, graduating from the Waverly High School on May 25, 1954.

On November 21, 1954, she was united in marriage to Richard N. Ward at St. John Lutheran Church in Waverly.

While Dick was in the U.S. Army, the couple made their home in Ft. Smith, Arkansas and at Ft. Polk, Louisiana until he was discharged on August 31, 1956.

The couple returned to Waverly, where Sara and Dick raised their three daughters.

Sara worked at Koehring Cranes (now Terex Cranes) from 1971 until 1991. She then worked at Waverly Municipal Hospital until her retirement on June 6, 2008.

Sara was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, Waverly Health Center Auxiliary and American Legion Post #176 Auxiliary. Sara volunteered her time with the Waverly Heritage Days Committee, Wartburg Community Symphony, American Red Cross blood drives and American Heart Association Board of Bremer County.

Sara is survived by her three daughters, Renee (Carl) Cheeseman of Reinbeck, Iowa, Rhonda (Mike) Beck of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Rebecca Bond of Waverly, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Matthew and Rachael Cheeseman, Malane Brown, Caitlin and Corey Beck, Lucas and Benjamin Bond; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sandra Carstensen of Waverly, Iowa, Lavonne Jones of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mary Ann (Vernon) Clefisch of Readlyn, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Ward on March 16, 2016; son-in-law, Mitch Bond on September 10, 2016; and two brothers-in-law, Dave Carstensen and Robert Jones.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 10:30 am at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly with Pastor Carolyn Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be held on Monday from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also an hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to either, Cedar Valley Hospice of Waverly or the Waverly Health Center.
