Rudolph "Rudy" R. Sonni, 94, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016, bringing a peaceful close to a lifetime devoted to his family.
Rudy was the second of five children born to Giovanni and Rose Sonni on March 9, 1922 in Plumville, PA. Rudy met his beloved wife, Della (Zaccagnini), the night he dined at her family's restaurant. They celebrated their 70thh wedding anniversary this year. Della often said, "Rudy is the kindest, gentlest man that ever lived."
Together they raised six children, Randi (Bob) Mazzoni, Jacqueline (Chuck) Sludden, Barbara (Tom) Ensminger, Thomas (Sharon) Sonni, Lawrence Sonni and Rosemary (Mike) Walsh, who awaits her dad in heaven. Rudy and Della were blessed to be surrounded by their adoring fourteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Rudy is survived by his loving brother, Sam Sonni; and sisters-in-law, Julie Sonni, Dee Sonni, Vera D'Amelio; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Sonni was a proud veteran of World War II and a retired systems analyst for the federal government. He was a dedicated member of St. Joan of Arc Roman Catholic Church, serving in many volunteer roles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11a.m. on Thursday, December 22 at St. Joan of Arc Church, 359 W. Areba Avenue, Hershey. At Rudy's request there will not be a viewing. Interment with military honors will be Friday at the Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Rose Grant Scholarship Fund at Lebanon Catholic School, 1400 Chestnut Avenue, Lebanon, PA 17042.
