US Marine Lance Corporal James Leroy Brown was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Marine Corps, LCPL Brown served our country until July 12th, 1968 in Quang Nam, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was not married. It was reported that James died from an undetermined explosion. His body was recovered. LCPL Brown is on panel 52W, line 017 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.
He always wanted to serve the country he loved so much. He was very patriotic. Leroy was a a Jr. Scout leader and was much bigger & stonger than his friends & family.He was a well liked young man who also sang in the choir.
A Marine Barracks in Camp LeJeune, North Carolina was named in his honor.
He was the son of James Lee & Ella Dorothy Blount Brown and the Grandson of Mrs Catherine Blount, 812 Van Norden Street, Washington, NC.
He served with Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 26th Marines, 1st Marine Division, 3rd MAF.
He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon(CAR), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
