Kathleen Emerald Massey former resident of Austin passed away on December 14, 2016. . She was born in Newberry, Michigan to Albert and Antoinette James on February 24, 1931. Upon graduation Kathleen attended Michigan College of Mining and Technology Branch at the Sault Residence Center to become a lab technician. She worked at the Great Lakes Steam Ship Company and as an organist at St. Joseph's Church located in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Kathleen married Albert Glen Massey on April 7, 1953. After 22 years of military service Albert retired from Bergstrom Air Force Base and they became residents in their dream home in Creedmoor, Texas. After raising 11 children, Kathleen turned her love of children into a wonderful career working for a number of years in the Del Valle school district as a volunteer, tutor and substitute teacher. Kathleen is preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years Albert Glen Massey and her daughter Barbara Massey Glidewell. She is survived by her 10 children Albert, Kathleen, Martin, John, Richard, Theresa, Susan, Carolyn, Marilyn, Lawrence, 22 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and her sister and Patricia Dickoff. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Monday, December 19, 2016, with a Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 P.M., at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Mass of Celebration will be at 10:00 A.M., December 20, 2016, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4800 Convict Hill Road, Austin Texas. Interment will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas. The family would like thank Dr. Gordon White, New Century Hospice of Austin, the nurses and staff at West Oaks Rehabilitation for their loving care of Katie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Kathleen to the New Century Hospice or to a children's charity of your choice.
