Funeral Rites Set Tuesday from Residence

Funeral services for Mrs. Daniel B. Murphy, 85, who died Friday (Aug. 13, 1937) at her home, 172 Canterbury Road, will be conducted at 8:30 a. m. Tuesday in the home and at 9 a. m. in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will be in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery.
Mrs. Murphy, whose maiden name was Mary B. Garvin*, was born in Machias. In 1872 she taught in the town of Dunkirk where Daniel B. Murphy was principal of St. Mary's School. They were married two years later and came to Rochester where Mr. Murphy taught for a time at Cathedral School. He later became connected with the firm of Burke, Fitzsimons, Hone & Company in which he was a partner until his death in 1922.
Mrs. Murphy was a member of the the board of directors of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children Shelter from 1900 until confined to her home about seven years ago. She also was on the board of the Children's Aid and at the State Agricultural and Industrial School, Industry.
She is the mother of Vincent Murphy, former state comptroller and now on the board of the New York World's Fair.
Surviving are four daughters, Mary Grace Murphy, Mrs. James J. Atkinson, Mrs. John J. Finucane and Margaret L. Murphy; a son, Vincent; a brother, Anthony W. Gavin of Buffalo, and 11 grandchildren.
