He was born January 23, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to John Leslie Ransom, Sr. and Margaret Sernau Ransom.
John graduated in 1956 from Oil Township High School. He was a member of the Local 181 Operating Engineers since 1958 and was a member of the Army Reserves. John was owner of John L. Ransom, Jr. Construction Company.
He enjoyed his work and spending time outdoors.
Surviving is his brother, Clarence (Zeke) Ransom of Cannelton; nephew, Clarence Jarrod (CJ) Ransom (Katie Clemens) of Cannelton; his nieces, Leslie Holcomb (Bayne) of Cannelton; Lisa Ransom of Ft. Worth, Texas; Lori Fredrickson (Kevin) of Grace, Idaho; his devoted friend and employee, Mike Trammell; and several other nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Ann Ransom and his sisters, Loretta Oxley, Juanita Rhodes, and Linda Freeman.
Funeral Services will be at 11 am Thursday, December 15 at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home with burial immediately following in Walker Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 pm Wednesday, December 14 and from 9 to 11 am Thursday.
