Joseph Dillehay & Elizabeth Way - 19 April 1874
Joseph M. Dillehay
The sudden death of J.M. Dillehay from heart failure which occurred Saturday noon came as a shock to the people of Crofton. He had been in usual health and had worked in the field Friday. Saturday noon he went to the barn and returned to the house lay down on a bed where he was found by members of the family. A doctor was called but life was extinct when he arrived.
Joseph M. Dillehay was born in Wisconsin, 22-OCT-1853, and died at his home in Crofton Saturday, 12-SEP-1914, at the age of 60 years, 10 months and 10 days.
In early childhood he moved with his parents to Mills County, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. On 19-APR-1874, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth N. Way who survives him. To this union were born twelve children, three of whom died in infancy. The remaining members of the family are Mrs. C.E. Van Orsdel of Milford, Iowa, Mrs. C.E. McDowell of Sloan, Iowa, Mrs. W.H. Tippery of Mitchell, S.D., M.E. Dillehay of Waterloo, Neb., Viriel F. , J, Ceil, Nonie B., Aletha and Merwin of Crofton. Besides the members of the immediate family the deceased is survived by three brothers .
Mr. Dillehay with his family came to Crofton in 1906 and resided here at the time of his death. He was a true and consistent Christian having always afflicted with the Methodist Church, and joining that organization at Loveland, Iowa, about twenty-four years ago.
J.M. Dillehay was known as an honest man, a kind husband and an indulgent father, and those knew him best trusted him as one whose word was as good as his bond.
The Journal joins the many friends in extending sympathy and condolence to the bereaved relatives.
