Merwin Carlos Dillehay
Merwin C. Dillehay passed away early Monday morning, February 8, 1960, at his home in Harris. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 11 at the Methodist Church in Harris with the Rev. Wesley Frank officiating.
Mr. Dillehay was born March 31, 1901, at Hillsdale, the son of Joseph M. and Elizabeth Way Dillehay. His boyhood was spent in Nebraska. He moved to northwest Iowa at the age of 16.
On October 15, 1923, he was united in marriage to Gladys Morfitt. To this union five children were born.
Survivors include the widow, Gladys; two sons, Donald Merwin of Harris and Raymond William of Omaha, Nebr.; two daughters, Mrs. C. John Miquelon (Marjorie Joan) of Sioux City, and Mrs. Douglas Jones (Marilyn Rose) of Salina, Kansas; six grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Floyd Blunt of Mitchell, S. Dak.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dale Lee, who died at the age of three and a half years in 1935; his parents at an early age; four brothers and three sisters.
He spent his working years as a farmer; farming south of Ocheyedan from 1923 to 1941, when he moved to a farm south of Harris, where he farmed until 1950 at which time he suffered a heart attack. He improved to do limited farming until 1953, when a severe heart attack forced him to retire and they moved into Harris where they have since resided.
He was a avid fisherman, spending many enjoyable hours at the pastime he enjoyed so much.
He was baptized and united with the Methodist church at an early age and was an active member, participating despite his illness.
A mixed quartet, Willis Johnson, Mrs. Arlo Young, Mrs. Gilbert Jones and Lee McClain, sang "Rock of Ages" and Willis Johnson as soloist sang "Going Home".
Floral offering were in charge of Mrs. W.H. Woelfle, Mrs. Don Timmons and Victor Nagel.
Pallbearers were Ervin Tangeman, Henry Schroder, Leland Block, Elmer Recher, George Recher and Lloyd McNiel.
