DAVID RICHARD BRANDT

MANNING, N.C. – David Richard Brandt, 73, husband of Carol Marie Stadler Brandt, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, after a brief battle with cancer, at his residence.

Born June 27, 1943, in Washington, D.C., he was a son of the late Edgar Paul Brandt and the late Beatrice Grace Diehl Brandt.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served from 1964 to 1970. He was secretary/treasurer and founder of the USS Sampson DDG-10 Association. He was a member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church, where he served as junior warden.

He was a graduate of Danville Technical Institute, class of 1963. He was a retired facilities manager at Youngstown State University. He was a life member of American Legion Post 290 in Columbiana, where he served as past commander and street fair manager. He was a national member of the Ruritans.

David enjoyed his church, traveling to the various US National Parks, photography, golf, music, stamp collecting and Corvettes.

He is survived by his wife of ten years of Manning; a daughter, Lisa Pingue (Tony) of Mahwah, N.J.; a stepdaughter, Amy Stadler Kerley (Kevin) of Paducah, Ky.; two grandchildren, Alec Pingue and Jonah Pingue; two stepgrandchildren, Taylor Kerley and Peyton Kerley; a brother, Martin Brandt of Colonial Beach, Va.; and two sisters, Jackie Marquardt of Fairfield, Pa. and Barbara Taubersmith (Bernie) of Pinehurst, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonita Jayne Brandt, on Sept. 3, 2000.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016, at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, with the Very Reverend David W.T. Thurlow officiating.

Pallbearers will be Toby Jones, Stan Raybits, Eddie Embry, Mike Oerther, Ed Holisky and Mike Chiuchiolo.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, at Florence National Cemetery.

Visitation will be held today, Dec. 12, 2016, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Stephens Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthias Episcopal Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 336, Summerton, SC 29148.
