An avid baseball fan and talented player, Fred's opportunity to respond to an invitation to try out for the New York (Baseball) Giants was supplanted by his service in the United States Army during World War II. His favorite teams were the Alabama Crimson Tide and the New York Mets. Many will remember Fred from his years behind home plate handling the radar gun for the University of Alabama baseball team.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
