Edward W. Simmons, 85, of Kuna, passed away at home with his family by his side on Jan. 5, 2007. Ed was born in Mountain Home, Idaho on June 2, 1921 to Warren and Nellie Simmons. Ed was one of nine children. Ed was raised on Smith's Prairie and graduated from Mountain Home High School. Ed joined the Army after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He served in the 91st Pine Tree Division, 361st Regiment of the Europe Africa-Middle East Campaign. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation, and several other awards, including three battle stars for distinguished service through the Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and the Po Valley Campaigns. He married Helen Fish in 1943 in Colorado Springs while he was in training for the 91st Mountaineer division. After the war he was a part-time rancher and in the Operating Engineers. After twenty-eight years of marriage Helen passed away in 1971, he then married Jeri Smith in 1972 and they bought a ranch in Kuna, Idaho. He lived there until his death. Ed's greatest pleasures were his family and riding horses in the back country. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen, wife Jeri, three brothers, two sisters, one grandson, and one great-granddaughter. He is survived by his daughter, Debbie and her husband Randy Cope of Patterson, Calif., his son Bob Simmons and his wife Mary of Kuna, Idaho, and his step-daughter Carole Chamberlain, ten grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Cloverdale Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. with a viewing on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home.
