Served in the Marine Corps Reserves from 2010 to 2014 as an Engineer Equipment Operator. He also specialized in the technological field working with his father on data analysis and had a gift for building computers. He was an early member of Elevation Church and volunteered weekly to set-up at the Providence High School location. Later, he was a member of St. Andrews Orthodox Church in Ashland, VA with his wife Elizabeth. He loved cycling, camping, and hiking. He inherited a love of the James River from his paternal grandfather and spent many happy hours there in Richmond, VA.
