Jack was born in Navarro County, Texas, to the late Soloman and Mamie Armstrong. He was in the United States Navy, serving in Iwa Jima and Guam. Jack was a member of the Lions club, served on the Blooming Grove school board, and also was a member of the Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Department when it first began. Jack enjoyed taking care of his cows and he was very active. He enjoyed dancing until he was 89.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Carol Armstrong; a grandson, Christopher Ross Armstrong; and a granddaughter Krista Armstrong.
Survivors include his sons, Jack D. Armstrong and wife, Angelena, Gary Armstrong and wife, Leasa, Mark Armstrong and wife, Debra, and Scott Armstrong and wife, Louann; grandchildren: Travis Armstrong, Amanda Arguello, Scarlett Gorden, April Taylor and husband, Aubrey, Kaley Plunkett and husband, Alan, Karah Garcia and husband, Phillip, Kyle Armstrong and Kaci Armstrong; great-grandchildren: Lydia Armstrong, Angelena Gorden, Ireland Hatcher, Caleb Taylor, Nicholas Taylor, Rylan Plunkett, Ellie Plunkett, Keegan Garcia, Ryder Garcia, and Harper Garcia; special friend, Mary Kent; other relatives and many friends.
