Wayne Moulder Walker, 98, of Panama City, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2016 in his home.

He was born in 1918 in Magee, Miss., to George Julius and Eva McKenzie Walker.

He was a 1940 graduate of the University of Mississippi, where he met his wife, Stella Elaine.

In June 1940, Wayne was hired by TCI, and he and Elaine moved to Birmingham, Ala.

There he learned all about the operations of TCI mines, and worked in accounting.

To help introduce computers in his workplace, he proceeded to teach himself computer programming.

His software became such a valued asset to the company that they eventually sold it to Utah Power and Light.

TCI became a division of U.S. Steel, and Wayne continued working there until he retired in 1984 as Manager of Southern Mines.

Not ready for retirement, Wayne worked on his inventions, and even obtained several patents.

Wayne was a central figure in his family and church. He single-handedly built a cabin on the Warrior River, and enjoyed it, and boating with family.

He built and stocked several lakes in pursuit of his love for fishing, and even became a weekend farmer, raising Black Angus cattle.

Too kind to see his pet cattle end up on the dinner table, his farming was short-lived.

Wayne was a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Central Park Baptist Church in Birmingham.

In 1987, Wayne and Elaine moved to Panama City to be near their daughter, Diane.

They built a cabin at Deer Point Lake, and it was there that Wayne was inspired to create the Sunset ministry.

This consisted of taking hundreds of his sunset pictures, and matching them with Bible scriptures to help share his love of Christ with others.

He distributed those all over town, along with instructions to a website of his pictures. Many at local establishments knew him as the Sunsets Man. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Panama City.

Wayne was preceded in death by his loving wife of 75 years, Elaine; his parents; sister, Eva Mae Boutwell; and two brothers, George Burnell Walker and Lavelle Walker.

He is survived by two daughters, Diane Houser (Ron) and Linda Berry (John); four granddaughters, Susan Brown (Brad,) Renee Street (Paul,) Cindy Duke (Ryan,) Amy Dungey (Mark); eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 9, at 11 a.m. at Forest Park United Methodist Church, Dr. John Friedman officiating.

Interment will follow at Kent Forest Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m., one hour prior to service time.
