Margaret Rose Barkman was born on April 30, 1949 to Peter and Helen Barkman of Blumenort, MB. She was the first daughter born, two years after her brother LeRoy. She brought much joy to her parents. Margaret Rose was followed by two brothers and four sisters. We looked up to her a lot and her deep love and commitment to God made a huge, positive impact on us, her siblings.

She committed her life to God at a young age and she was baptized at the Blumenort Evangelical Mennonite Church. Life had many insurmountable challenges but her faith in God remained firm. She enjoyed waitressing but her favourite job was nursing in Winkler on the Surgery and Maternity ward.

Margaret Rose was a missionary at heart all her life. When her Spanish language training at Rio Grande Bible Institute ended, she focused her missionary vision on Canada. She loved teaching Sunday school and clubs but a favorite for her was helping at Christian Bible camps.

She worked at St. Boniface Hospital and also at Prairie Bible College in Three Hills, Alberta, for a time. As had happened previously, her mental illness troubled her and she came home for convalescence. However she regained strength and courage and moved out on her own again, this time obtaining employment with cleaning jobs at Lindsay's florists and for home owners.

Margaret Rose was passionate about praying for people. Her family was top of her prayer list, especially her nieces and nephews. But she also spent much time praying for missionaries and many others who crossed her path.

Her prayer ministry ended suddenly at her home on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 when God called her to her heavenly home. She will be missed by her three sisters: Rebecca (Jim) Wiebe, Judy (Erwin) Plett, Delores (Murray) Barkman, two brothers: John (Janice) and Dwayne (Candy), one sister-in-law Marcella and one brother-in-law Garry Kornelsen. Also by 9 nieces and 8 nephews who were very dear to her and 18 great-nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Peter & Helen Barkman, brother LeRoy and sister Sharon Kornelsen, and step-mother Margaret Dueck Barkman.

We will miss you Margaret Rose.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52 W, MB, with the interment at Heritage Cemetery.
