Obituary in The Shreveport Times October 12, 2008:
SHREVEPORT, LA - Richard W. "Dick" Fry, 75, passed away at his home Friday, October 10, 2008, after a courageous seven year struggle with heart and kidney disease. A memorial service will be held at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Chapel, 1815 Marshall Street, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2008.

Dick was a native of Chicago, Illinois and a graduate of Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. He served with the U.S. Army in Germany 1956 through 1958. He was a sales representative for ladies apparel and traveled extensively in his job. He had lived in Shreveport since the early 60's. Dick was very active in amateur fast and slow-pitch softball, and basketball, and loved running and sports. He and his wife, Shirley, enjoyed traveling and took many wonderful trips out West to national parks, and to Arkansas and Wisconsin. Dick was fascinated by people he met and was a truly friendly and kind person. He loved life. No matter what was going on, Dick was always happy and full of fun. He found something new and enjoyable every day. He had a deep belief in God and Christ, and was not afraid of dying. He had a firm belief in heaven, and being able to watch over his loved ones after his death.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, William and Veronica Fry, of Fox Lake, Illinois and by his oldest daughter, Tammy Fry-Hempstead, of Norcross, GA. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Shirley Lasseigne Fry; his son, Michael Fry of Dahlonega, GA; his daughter, Kirsten Knutson and son-in-law, Steve Knutson of Navarre, FL; and his son-in-law, Steve Hempstead of Norcross, GA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Karly Fry-Hempstead of Norcross, GA and Canon Knutson and Logan Knutson of Navarrre, FL. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Martin and brother-in-law, Tom Martin, and sister-in-law, Carolyn Paul and her companion, Kelley Weldin, all of Shreveport, and by sister-in-law, Cindy Houston and brother-in-law, Chuck Houston of West Monroe, LA. Dick is also survived by very dear friends, Dave and Dorothy Gouletas, and their daughters, Molly and Liz. They have been like family to Dick and Shirley for many years.

Many thanks to all the doctors and health care professionals who took such wonderful care of Dick. Thanks especially to Dr. Robert Martin of Ark-La-Tex Cardiology and to Dr. Anthony Palazzo and Dr. Sylvia Noble for helping Dick to enjoy seven and a half "bonus" years since his initial heart attack in 2001. Those extra years have been priceless for Dick's wife, Shirley, and the rest of his family, and they are deeply appreciated.
