On June 4, 1955 he married Clara Jagla in White Lake, WI. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Suring for four years before moving to Oconto Falls. Duane was employed as a driver for Tisch & Drews Trucking in Oconto Falls for over 40 years until his retirement. As an avid hunter and horseman since youth, Duane drove many teams of horses for L & M Carriage in many events as well as drove a team during the annual circus parade in Milwaukee. He was a longtime member of the WI Horse Pullers Association and worked as a judge at local, state and international contests. Duane was also a member of St. Anthony Catholic Parish in Oconto Falls.
Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Clara Nelson; their four children, Don (Betty) Nelson, Rebecca Nelson, Randy (Mark Beske) Nelson and Michelle Nelson; one sister, Audrey Zoromski; nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Dean, sister-in-law Gail Nelson and brother-in-law John Zoromski.
Visitation will be held after 9am Saturday, December 3, 2016 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11am Saturday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Joel Sember officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery in the Town of Spruce.
