His parents were James REDMOND, Sr. and Isabella SINOTTE.

Oral tradition relates that in 1835 he took a sail boat cross the ocean and after a 6 week voyage, he arrived in America. He visited relatives and worked in New-York.

He first married to Ann RYAN on 20 January 1840 at St.John's Church in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey and they had at least 3 children.

About 1845 he moved his family from New Jersey to St.Louis, Missouri and they appeared on the 1850 census there.

After his 1st wife died, he renewed an acquaintance with Esther LAMBERT, who he had previously known in Ireland. They married on 22 August 1852 at Bascilica of St.Louis the King Old Cathedral in St.Louis, Missouri and they had at least 8 children.

About 1864 he moved his family from Missouri to Illinois. He bought a 160 acre farm 8 miles northwest of Mt.Sterling in Pea Ridge Township, Brown County, Illinois which is now known as the Redmond Homestead. They appeared on the 1865 and 1870 Illinois census. He left his property to be equally divided among his 10 surviving children.
