Was given the nickname, "Fat," by the old shop owner in, Cannon, Texas where he grew up.
Moved to Platter, Oklahoma with his parents, brother, Frank, and younger sister, Elinor in November of 1924.
Attended the murder trial of his brother, Frank, when the boy was killed by Albert E. Lary in, 1926.
In 1930, he married Irene Marie Anderson of, Platter, Okla. The two of them had three children, Jeanette, Joyce, and John.
When his children were young, Hugh traveled to Washington State and California working at various apple farms. He later moved back to Colbert, Oklahoma, built a home, and worked for the Safeway Grocery Store Plant in Denison, Texas.
He took early retirement because of failing health and died on his birthday.
