Funeral services of Aleka Vaky, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. Vaky, who died Monday night from pneumonia, were held from the residence, 1702 Creswell street, at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Dr. W. W. Drake conducted the services. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.

The Vaky family plot at Greenwood has no visible monuments, however had nice coping and finals as well as an engraved name plate at the opening of the lot. It is located in Lot 3 East of Western Avenue.

Aleka Vaky was the daughter of popular Shreveport confectioner Peter Vaky, a native of Greece (or Turkey, according to other records such has his passport application) and his wife, also born in Greece, Arsenoi Stephanides. The Vakys moved by 1920 to Corpus Christi, Texas where Peter opened Vaky's Cafe. Peter died in 1937 and his Arsenoi in 1960. The Vakys were very prominent in the society columns of both Shreveport and Corpus newspapers. Research of newspaper archives does not reveal a reason for the Vaky's move from Louisiana to Texas. While in Corpus, Peter built one of the city's first apartment complexes named Vaky Apartments at Chapparel and Taylor. They had a daughter, Theana Vaky, and sons George (who died in 1910), Alex P., Viron, Themosticles Peter (who died in 1930), and a baby who died in 1921.
