Garner Barnes, age 77 of Nashville, Arkansas, passed away Friday May 28, 2010 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born March 4, 1933 in Valley View, Texas to the late John Jay and Bertha Kinney Barnes.
He had been employed by General Dynamics as a computer consultant. He also was a bulldozer operator and a welder. Mr. Barnes was a Navy veteran where he received a good conduct medal, a National Defense medal and a China Service award. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nashville.
Mr. Barnes was a graduate of Valley View High School, where he was a football player. Growing up in Valley View he worked in the cotton gins and worked with combine crews during the wheat harvest. He loved baseball, playing dominos, loved water skiing and all water sports. He was an Arkansas State Senior Champion Sporting Clay Shooter, and was also a professional coffee drinker.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, O.L. Barnes, J.J. Barnes, Jr., 1 sister, Lois Freeman 1 daughter, Susan K. Barnes 1 son, James W. Barnes.
Survivors include; His loving wife of over 53 years, Joyce Ahrens Barnes of Nashville, Arkansas 2 daughters, Sandra and husband Randy Brigham of Stamford, Texas Kathy Barnes of Nashville, Arkansas 1 Grandson, William Brigham of Stamford, Texas Several Nieces and Nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
Memorial Services will be Monday May 31, 2010 at 11 am. at First United Methodist Church in Nashville with Russell Hull officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 am. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
