George was the 2nd of 5 children of Jacob Ankeny and Christina Yerian of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He was baptized Lutheran as John George Ankeny at Mt. Pleasant, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, sponsors John George and Anna Margaret Yerian, his mother's parents.
He married about 1808 to Susan Kathleen Brolliar.
They settled at Ankenytown, Knox County, Ohio, which is named for him. He was Justice of the Peace there.
They are reportedly buried in Ridenour Cemetery, but a search for their gravestone was not successful.
